PAARI

The Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (PAARI) is a national organization started in Gloucester, Massachusetts by the Gloucester Police Department. Its mission is to help opioid addicts find proper addiction treatment. Rather than arrest addicts seeking help, PAARI supports them by connecting participants to treatment programs and facilities, distributing opioid blockers, and providing resources to other police departments.

How effective is PAARI?

  • Communities that have joined PAARI have experienced as much as a 25% drop in addiction-related crimes
  • More than 400 participants have been helped into treatment from the Gloucester Police Department alone
