In this episode of the Cover2 Resources Podcast, Greg McNeil, Founder and President, interviews Bill Gilliland, the Chief Operating Officer of Treatment Alternatives in Boca Raton, Florida. Treatment Alternatives, also known as the “Boca House,” is the last place where Greg’s son Sam underwent rehab.

In the Fall of 2013, Sam entered the Boca House for in-patient treatment. After 90 days, he entered the Intensive Outpatient Program. He successfully completed the program at Treatment Alternatives. However, his recovery was not permanent.

In this episode, Greg talks with Bill Gilliland, Treatment Alternatives COO. He asks some hard questions. What can families do for a loved one who has fallen prey to addiction? Bill advocates families taking a hard line and not enabling their loved one’s addictive behavior—including stern measures such as cutting off financial support.

Bill shares his story and discusses how addiction claimed his brother’s life. Bill got sober at 21 years old, and he has been in recovery his entire adult life. His unique perspective puts him right at the crux of addiction treatment. “For me, it’s a win-win to work and help people,” Bill says. “To have a part in saving someone’s life—to be an instrument of God’s grace, even if it’s just a small part—is an amazing thing.”
