Greg interviews Lisa Roberts, a Health Department Nurse for the city of Portsmouth, Ohio. She’s been working as a Portsmouth nurse for the past 29 years. She also worked with Sam Quinones on his highly-acclaimed book Dreamland. This episode is Part One in a series of podcasts that will explore life after Dreamland for those who helped Sam with his book.

Lisa discusses how the epidemic grew in Portsmouth from the early to mid-nineties onward. She specifically describes Dr. David Proctor, known as the ‘Godfather of Pill-Mills’ in Portsmouth and his effect on the epidemic in the area. “He was known for being a prolific prescriber,” says Lisa. “People could get pills off of him using their medical cards and sell them…After Oxycodone came out, we saw a gradual increase in people accessing pain killers…People were getting addicted.”
